Shear Haven Domestic Violence Training Quiz

Shear Haven is an initiative of the YWCA Nashville & Middle TN, co-founded by Nashville-based salon owner and stylist Susanne Post. As a survivor of domestic violence, Susanne is committed to educating the beauty industry on the signs of abuse as stylists are in a unique position to recognize the signs and potentially help a client get to safety.

This effort has extended to passing a law in Tennessee to bring the life-saving training to all licensed cosmetologists. The Shear Haven training video equips stylists with:

  • Knowledge and resources to recognize the signs of domestic violence
  • Guidance on how to successfully navigate conversations with clients who may be in danger
  • Tools and resources that can help your client get to safety
What’s Included In The Training?

This training will consist of a free 20 minute training session followed by a short three question quiz. After completion, you will receive a personalized certificate of achievement.

Pro's need more details to be effective

No, we're not supposed to "solve" the problem for the client/co-worker. But, more education is needed to help guide the Pro, as to how to approach someone, if there are "signs". So many people literally WILL NOT take that "first step" to help on their own, for fear of the abuser finding out. Sometimes, taking a small piece of paper is even too risky. Pro's need sensitivity training to be effective

The most important part about the video was that they offer help & ensure that you're there to be a friend not a counselor.

I'd say the video was helpful and resourceful.

Cosmetologist as counselors

This is good information being in the cosmetology business Stylist find themselves not only perfecting their profession, but sometimes being counselors to those in domestic situations. We develop relationships with our clients that helps them to open up and share information about situations they maybe in and seeking help.
